What are the disadvantages of Energy Saving lights?

What’s the color of an energy saving light bulb?
When you use one of those spiral energy-saving light bulbs (such as the GE Energy Smart CFL Light Bulb: 13 Watt ) what color is it when you turn it on? A more normal yellowish color or more whitish like fluorescent?
Love the energy saving light bulbs, but a couple of have exploded and/or burned out in less than a year. Why?
Are these energy saving light bulbs more dangerous than they’re worth? The exploding aspect worries me, though I can’t find much written about it. I’m seriously considering replacing all of the ones in my house with traditional bulbs, but I know that’s going to drive my electric bill up. What are your thoughts or experiences with these bulbs?
